Effect of flow rate towards microfluidic hollow fibre extraction efficiency

A microfluidic device with a hollow fibre membrane is presented in this work. The device was fabricated using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and tested by performing a single- step measurement to observe the effect of extraction efficiency towards varied input flow rates with two different sodium chloride (NaCl) concentrations of 0.5 M and 2.0 M. It was observed that a lower input flow rate resulted in higher extraction efficiency. This work is aimed to show that a simple fabricated microfluidic device using a typical conventional hollow fibre as the membrane can be used for extraction and separation purposes.
