The Level of Cognitive Abilities of Generational Group Y and Educational Process

The paper deals with the level of cognitive abilities of the generational group Y in the educational process. The cognitive abilities influence the success rate of students in exams and the overall academic results. The sample includes the students from three selected faculties of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (25 % student daily attendance form of study at three selected faculties). The number of students was 267 (n = 267). The authors of the paper classified them according to their age into the generational group Y. The authors of the paper used their own collection tool "Test of Selected Higher Cognitive Abilities" ("TSHCA"). The "TSHCA" test is full valid and reliable due to the level of Cronbach coefficient α = 0.878. The obtained data were evaluated in the statistical program SPSS IBM along with descriptive statistical analysis in MS Excel and through their evaluation. However, the authors have found significant differences between the selected faculties and the results of the "TSHCA" test. = 0.152) were identified from the evaluation of Spearman Correlation Test. It follows that it is important to examine the level of cognitive abilities in the educational process in order to improve the academic results.
