Voxel Micro-Modeling of Composite Structures Based on Scanning of Material Real Objects

Computer technologies progress causes an extensive use of numerical calculation methods. In parallel, present-day mass application of composites produces a need of their structure' micro-modeling to obtain more adequate results. One of the problems of such modeling is the adequate description of fibers for fiber reinforced elements and particles for disperse reinforced composites. Known approaches are based on the simplified description of the reinforcing elements or on some artificial models. The present paper offers the use of reinforcing elements scanning and thereupon the creation of their digital doubles. As the basis of such micro-modeling it is offered to convert rasters to voxel models, and further - to representative volume elements for making a construction geometrical model. Further, it is possible to develop finite element or other numerical physical models, based on such micro-modeling. The methodology has been tested for a calculation of indenter impact on a composite protective panel.
