Circularly-polarized on-chip dielectric resonator antenna

A circularly-polarized on-chip spherical dielectric resonator antenna for operation at 100 GHz is presented. The spherical resonator shape allows for on-chip self-alignment, which is enabling the scalability of the concept towards higher frequency. The antenna is fed by an on-chip microstrip line through a pair of on-chip quarter-wavelength microstrip resonators. The two on-chip resonators couple to two orthogonal resonance modes of the dielectric resonator with a phase difference of 90 degrees between them, leading to circularly polarized radiation.
