Tailoring near and far electromagnetic fields through optimization

We present results on optimization of electromagnetic devices to obtain a predefined field or scattering behaviour using gradient-based algorithms. Two examples of application are given: the design of an invisibility cloak [1] and a microwave illusion device [2], which has been fabricated and characterized.
