Analysis of Hydrogen Dry Cell for Alkaline Water Electrolysis

This paper presents analysis of experimental results, of a hydrogen dry cell for alkaline water electrolysis, to optimize hydrogen production. The normalized cell varying input variables include: voltage-gradient, volts/cell; current-density, ma/cm2; and electrolyte concentration, g/lit. We defined a set of normalized output metrics to compare our results with the others. These are overall cell performance constants including: Cell production-rate constants: C_lpm in liters/min and C_mmw in milli-lit/min/watt; cell energy consumption constant C_wh in watt-hours/lit; and cell overall conversion efficiency C_eff in percentage. Analysis of our measurement-data find that correct voltage-gradient is very critical for optimal production of hydrogen gas. We can achieve optimal hydrogen-production even at very low electrolyte concentrations. Operating at low concentration levels resulted in drastic reduction in cell-maintenance.
