A Dual-Band Broadband Metamaterial Absorber with Wide-Angle Absorption and Polarization Insensitivity

A dual-band broadband metamaterial absorber with wide-angle absorption and polarization insensitivity is proposed in this paper. The unit structure of the proposed absorber is divided into three layers. The upper layer is composed by a dual-arm Archimedes spiral loaded with a resistor in the center area, the middle layer is a substrate, and the bottom is a ground plane. Full-wave simulation showed that the proposed absorber can operate at 3.84GHz-8.65GHz and 11GHz-16.4GHz, respectively, with an absorption rate over 50 %. Especially, the absorption rate can reach 90% from 12.77GHz to 15.08GHz. Besides, in the dual operating bands, the proposed absorber has the characteristics of polarization insensitivity and wide-angle absorption in the range from −45 ° to +45° Compared with previous researches using spiral structure, the proposed design has an obvious advantage in bandwidth.
