Design and Analysis of Broadband Planar Crossed Slot Antenna with Three SIW Cavity Modes

A novel broadband substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot antenna is presented in this paper. By exciting three cavity modes (TE₂₁₀, TE₂₂₀, and TE₂₃₀ modes), the crossed slot antenna is able to generate three resonances, which lead to a wide operation band from 17.5 to 26.5 GHz (41%). The antenna exhibits a good broadside radiation and low cross polarization in the whole K band. Besides, it also shows advantages of low weight, low fabrication cost, and easy integration with planar circuits.
