Charging and Discharging Characteristics of the No-insulation HTS Coil Impregnated Using Solder

This paper presents the charging and discharging characteristics of the No-insulation (NI) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) coil impregnated using solder. Impregnation is a common method to fix the coil and protect the HTS coil from mechanical disturbances caused by the magnetic field and rotational vibration. However, traditional epoxy resins are electrical insulating materials which might cause the turn-to-turn contact resistance of NI coils to increase. Therefore, we proposed a new kind of impregnation method using the electrically conductive material, solder. This paper give a brief description of the new impregnation method. All the tests were performed in liquid nitrogen at 77K.
