Batteryless Pelvic Nerve Direct Modulation for Bladder Voding Using an Active Neural Clip

This paper demonstrates batteryless remote modulation of bladder function using an active neural clip interfaces in rats. The proposed clip interface not only provides quick and conformal implantation on a small pelvic nerve in a rat, but also applies gentle pressure on the nerve to keep the clip interface in place. This novel clip interface is integrated with a micro PCB, and components for wireless mid-field transfer. The tiny and wirelessly powered neural clip can be implanted on the small visceral pelvic nerve located deeply in the body, and it provides remote modulation of micturition in rats. This result indicates that the proposed wireless neural clip could enable wireless modulation of small peripheral somatic and visceral nerves, thus advancing implantable bioelectronics in the near future.
