Analogue flow control of a network of centrifugal air compressors

The air installation consists of a main pipe in which 10 high-capacity centrifugal compressors pump air simultaneously. The overall air flow rate of the compressors that pump in the same pipe can be regulated through the actuation of the air suction valve of each compressor. By closing or opening the suction valve, the flow rate of each compressor can be regulated, thus enabling the control of the overall flow. From a central electronic cabinet, an analogue command is given to each compressor's suction valve. This one responds with an analogue feedback on the flow rate of the compressor. If there are two types of compressors within the plant, the automated control allows closing or opening the suction valves in a certain order. Thus, besides the primary objective to ensure a certain flow, high energy efficiency is also attained.
