Numerical Modeling of a Flyback Converter with Different Magnetic Media, for Micro-Power Controllers

This study presents the numerical modelling of a miniature, planar, power transformer (PT) used in flyback convertors for low-power applications. The magnetic circuit is built using ferrite and magnetic nanofluid media. The converter is powered by a pulse width modulated voltage (PWM) supply. The PT is provided with an air-gap in the central column of the ferrite core. This paper is concerned with the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in addition to the high frequency operation mode of the device. The magnetic circuit is sized to minimize losses during the switching time. Thermal stability of the device is also considered.
