Higher harmonics generated by LED retrofit lamps, depending on the used driver

The paper presents a study of the generated higher harmonics in the electrical power grid, obtained from the operation of retrofit LED light sources. More than 30 types of LED light sources of various manufacturers, widely marketed on the Bulgarian market, have been studied. It has been found that the resulting higher harmonics are mainly dependent on the type of the driver. In low-cost LED products, are used drivers, composed only of passive elements and without the use of filters for the generated harmonics. This results in serious harmonic distortions of the power grid parameters. Graphical dependency of the tested LED products is presented. Conclusions and recommendations have been made.
