Microwave Ultra-Wideband VCO Design

The article describes the features of ultra-wideband voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) design. This oscillator is implemented in hybrid technology by using standard SMD components (resistors, capacitors, etc.) and has a tuning octave range from 6 to 12 GHz. The different methods of VCO designing has been presented. A comparison of data simulated by different analysis tools (Microwave Office and AXIEM) to measured results for developed oscillator have been presented. It is shown that the better results are achieved within circuit simulation by adding an electromagnetic analysis (AXIEM) of VCO's microstrip topology.
