Abstract:

Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) specified by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a new technology of Low Power Wide Area (LPWA). While conventional mobile services such as LTE support excellent mobility with handover and redirection, NB-IoT supports mobility only with cell reselection in idle state. In this regards, it is important for mobile operators to optimize the performance of cell reselection for reliable NB-IoT service. In this paper, we provide operational characteristics of NB-IoT cell reselection and a methodology for optimization of cell reselection parameters with test results in test-bed as well as real operational field environment.
