Improving Internationalization of Higher Education in Informatics: A Brazilian - Norwegian Experience

This paper outlines the current results and experiences from two projects being concerned with international collaboration between Norway and Brazil within the domains of self-learning systems and robots. The collaboration is through a set of different activities like short-term and long-term reciprocal mobility stays by students and staff for collaboration in research, curriculum and teaching material development, guest lectures and more. The projects have been running since the beginning of 2017, and there has been interaction between staff from project partners in various ways including through e-mail, Skype and physical meetings. The collaboration projects are funded from Norway and coordinated in Norway by Department of Informatics at University of Oslo. The main project partner in Brazil is Institute of Informatics, UFRGS in Porto Alegre with Brazilian Institute of Robotics at Senai CIMATEC in Salvador as a co-partner. One of the projects also involves partners in Japan and US but this paper focuses mainly on the Norway - Brazil part of the collaboration. The projects have so far been effective in learning from each other in how we work both within teaching and research. They have also resulted in active collaboration including through master student exchange.
