Simulation Analysis of Active Programmable Electronic AC Load

The electronic load is a new type of power electronic device/equipment that is widely used in research or testing of inverter, UPS, electronic generating set etc. The AC active electronic loads (AELs) based on pulse width modulation (PWM) converters capable of emulating nonlinear load, requires effective current control techniques and power stages. An Active Programmable electronic AC load (APEL) dependent upon a voltage source inverter (AC VSI) is presented to emulate (copy) the load behaviors for example, resistive, inductive, capacitive and harmonic loads. The control strategy to emulate resistive, capacitive, inductive, dynamic resistive and non-linear harmonics has been discussed. Simulation has been carried out in MATLAB^®/Simulink platform.
