Design of BLDC Based ISG for Aerial Application: Effect of Stator Slot Design Parameters on the Efficiency

Nowadays Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) is an emerging technology for both ground as well as Aerial vehicle application, specially where the space and weight is the main constraints in IC Engines. In this paper the concept of ISG has been evolved and the effect of slot design on efficiency in both the mode i.e. Starter as well as Generator mode on a three phase BLDC based ISG are analyzed. BLDC based ISG with three different slots area has been designed by using RMXprt software and efficiency of electrical machine of all the different slot area in full load condition has been presented. Same slot area has been analyzed in electromagnetically in FEA domain by using Maxwell 2D software. The result shows that with optimized stator slot area maximum efficiency can be increased in both motoring as well as in generating mode.
