Comparision of Interline Power Flow Controller with Line Reactor and SSSC in a 400kV Transmission Line

The effective series power flow control in a transmission line through conventional method are generally implemented with series line reactors in power grids, as these reactors are economical in terms of project cost and easy to install. The conventional reactors can control the power flow in the event of a sudden increase in load current, however the voltage profile of the respective bus is deteriorating. Consequently series Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) devices have been utilized to improvise power flow while maintaining the voltage profile at bus and reducing line losses. Among the series FACTS devices the most predominant series FACTS device, is the Interline power flow controller (IPFC). This paper investigates the effectiveness of IPFC in controlling the power flow and while maintaining the voltage profile in a test power system. Furthermore the results are compared with a Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) compensator. This study provides insight to the industrialists in utilizing FACTS devices in grid networks.
