Towards Trusted Computing-A Novel Holistic Policy Based Approach

Trust means first party is entrusting the second party with their assets in good will; that, it will be kept safe. In computing paradigm, the users entrust their data including personally identifiable information with service provider such as social networking sites. Service providers have the responsibility of keeping the user's data safe from misuse and exploitation. Trust is gained when the service provider can prove that they are keeping the data safe. For this, it needs to be auditable and complaint to data privacy laws. Web services hosted on the cloud are vulnerable to data security threats. Also, privacy and data policy of service providers indicate that they share user data including personally identifiable information with third parties like advertisers. Data sharing policies of service providers need to be revisited and trustable solutions need to be proposed. Holistic data privacy policies need to designed by law enforcement agencies which hold the service providers accountable. There is a pleading need for policy based trustable framework for handling of data in cloud based services, especially in social networking. In current work, we discuss these concerns and propose a holistic policy based approach to solve the research problem and move towards trusted computing.
