Abstract:

Polycrystalline Pb-Salt detectors are a low cost technology for IR photodetectors. In this work, we describe the physics of PbSe detectors that accurately captures the carrier transport and long lifetimes arising from inverted channels formed due to unique bandstructure of PbSe|PbI2 heterostructures. We then discuss performance improvement through voltage control of the bandstructure, which may open a pathway for high performance and low cost IR photodetectors.
