Discourses Surrounding Feminism in Ukraine: A Sentiment Analysis of Twitter Data

This paper outlines the localization of the SentiStrength sentiment analysis program into Ukrainian and its application to tweets on feminism. The SentiStrength algorithm aims at detecting sentiment polarity and strength of a text. Thus, it helps to identify inappropriate affective utterances, associated with discrimination and aggression. The findings reveal a prevailing strong negative sentiment of the analyzed tweets. The direct expression of support for feminist goals by the Ukrainian Tweeter users couples with ambiguity about the idea of feminism.
