Spatial Relation for Multipoint Relays Selection Algorithm in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

The mobility concept is an essential element which can influence the evolution of network performances in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Improving stability is one of the main considerations in designing routing protocols. In this paper, the author proposes an improved algorithm based on a technique of mobility by exploring both modification to MPRs selection and integrating the technique in the routing decision. The technique, in question, is a spatial mobility named Spatial Relation MPR, which is derived from the linear distance of the movement of a node with its instantaneous speed, direction and acceleration. The main objective is to find more stable MPRs that can increase stability of the network even in a highly dynamic environment. Our version of OLSR is proven by simulations in network simulator (NS3) under Manhattan Grid mobility model. Results shown a significant performance gains for SROLSR. In addition, the proposed technique can be used as a mobility mechanism to improve network performance for other protocols in MANETs.
