Remote Rural Area Water Scarcity Solution: An Innovative Green Energy Mobile DC Water Pump System

The South African water supply has been in crisis for many years now and the trend is progressively growing due to climate change factors that impact on rain frequency resulting in little or no supply of water to fill dams. Population growth is another contributor to this issue apart from cities migration, leading to rise in water demand and excessive pressure on water supply and its infrastructures. Rural dwellers continue to suffer greatly as a result of non-accessibility to good quality drinking water; these are people who still use contaminated water from rivers to run daily household duties, resulting in more sanitation problems as water-borne diseases steadily increase. With construction of dams still a pipeline process/project and available infrastructures declining, renewable energy technology / technique has the capacity to provide the country with solution to clean water access especially to rural dwellers. This paper presents a PV solar submersible DC water pump mobile system technique for small-scale water pumping in rural areas to alleviate the issue around access to clean water supply. It is expected that regular household activities are undertaken - drinking, cooking and bathing. Simulation results obtained showed the proficiency of the technique and adept contribution to clean water access and plight of the rural dwellers while encouraging and preserving green friendly environment and rural development.
