Forward scattering radar moving object coordinate measurement

The unique features of a forward scattering radar system have been emphasized in some publications. One of the basic problems of implementation of a forward scattering radar system is the problem of moving object trajectory parameter measurement. Methods of this problem solution have been discussed. The comparative analysis of different versions of a bistatic forward scattering radar structure demonstrated that the most promising among them is the variant with a continuous quasi-harmonical signal. Using a sufficiently effective algorithm of moving object trajectory parameter measurement, this variant of the radar structure allows us to overcome all the essential difficulties which interfere with construction of a bistatic forward scattering radar. In the case of quasi-harmonic signal use, a 2D radar usually finds the Doppler frequency, f/sub /spl alpha//, and the returned signal direction bearing, /spl alpha/. Our purpose is to find trajectory parameters using parameters f and /spl alpha/. The analytical solution of this problem by the method of maximum likelihood is discussed. The results of the analytical study and full-scale field test results are presented.
