A Gold Coated Plasmonic Sensor for Biomedical and Biochemical Analyte Detection

A photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is proposed in the visible to near infrared (500-1995-nm) region for biomedical and biochemical analyte detection. Finite element method based software COMSOL 5.3 is used to design and numerical characterization of the proposed sensor. Optimizing different geometrical parameters and using gold (Au) as a plasmonic material the proposed sensor shows a maximum wavelength sensitivity of 62000 nm/RIU (Refractive Index Unit) and a maximum amplitude sensitivity of 1415 RIU

within the analyte refractive index (RI) range of 1.33-1.43. The fabrication of the suggested sensor is feasible by means of the prevailing fabrication technologies.
