Next Generation Photonics Based on 2D Materials

Two dimensional materials such as monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) are expected to have large changes in their optical sheet conductivity by controlling their carrier densities. We demonstrate a platform for waveguide-integrated phase modulators in the near-infrared regime based on Tungsten disulphide (WS
₂
) gating.
