High Voltage Gain Interleaved Active-Clamp Forward (IACF) Converter having Reduced Primary Conduction Loss

This paper proposes an interleaved active clamp forward (IACF) converter having small primary conduction loss. Based on the conventional IACF converter, the components on one ACF module is re-arranged to employ the increased input voltage for high voltage gain. By achieving the high voltage gain, the proposed converter can significantly reduce the primary condition loss with large turns-ratio and the expanded duty ratio at the nominal input voltage V

. In addition, since there is no additional components, a power density cannot be a burden in the proposed converter although high efficiency is achieved. Finally, the validity of the proposed converter is confirmed by the experimental results of a prototype converter with 36-72 VDC input and 480 W (12 V/40 A) output.
