Compact large capacity gas turbine static starter

Today, the demand for gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plants is increasing owing to the need to increase efficiency and reduce impact on the environment. The device used for starting a gas turbine is called a static frequency converter (SFC). Owing to the increasing size of gas turbines in GTCC plants, gas turbines require more output power from the SFC. Recently, larger capacity SFC (7 MW) products are available; however, they require a larger footprint for installation and additional work on-site for wiring between the SFC cubicles. This paper describes the development of a compact and large capacity SFC to address these new challenges.
