Experimental Educational System of AC Electric Drives with Internet of Things

The Internet of Things is the network, which connects and controls devices over internet. It has many applications in energy systems and industrial informatics including wireless and mobile networks of devices and sensors. IoT technologies for control systems of electric machines in drives and renewable energy systems are examined in order to promote further reduction in the energy consumption combined with improved monitoring and management. The development of teaching methods for the emerging knowledge regarding IoT in energy systems is a challenge. This article focuses on selected issues regarding research and development of IoT technologies for smart applications in energy industry and electric drives, while promoting the implementation of new experiments in laboratory for educational purposes aiming at the enhancement of studies in electrical engineering.
