Engineering Approach to Calculate the Additional Losses in Inverter Fed RSM and SPMSM

In early design state of an electrical rotating machine, it is still very time-consuming and expensive to determine the additional losses due to inverter operation, since time-stepped solutions with the actual voltage waveforms are needed. This paper presents an estimation method for inverter fed machines based on existing time-saving techniques to calculate the additional losses due to inverter supply. The method has been verified by measurement on synchronous machines.
