Assessment of pilling effect on the laser modified textile substrates

The purpose of the work was to determine the impact of the modification of a textile substrate by using a laser beam on the susceptibility of textile products to pilling. The nondestructive method of optical coherence tomography was used to evaluate the tendency to form an unsightly ball of fibers or knots. A positive effect of laser processing on the decreasing number of slacken individual threads protruding above the surface of the fabric was observed, and as a result the reduction of the created pills.
