A Single-Topology Continuously-Scalable-Conversion-Ratio Fully Integrated Switched-Capacitor DC-DC Converter with 0-to-2.22V Output and 93% Peak-Efficiency

This work introduces the first DC-DC converter topology that can efficiently and continuously scale its conversion ratio using only capacitors as passive elements. This is achieved by maximizing rather than minimizing the voltage swing on the capacitors through efficient soft-charging phases. A converter fabricated in a 28nm CMOS process demonstrates the topology and advances the state-of-the-art by achieving a peak-efficiency of 93%, and a single-topology 0.9-to-2.03V output voltage range with more than 90% efficiency.
