Uncertainty Propagation and Evaluation of Nano-Scale Stray Field in Quantitative Magnetic Force Microscopy Measurements

It is essential for a traceable magnetic field calibration to understand how data processing methods impact the final result. Here, we report a quantitative nano-scale magnetic stray field characterization method, which is based on phase images measured by magnetic force microscopy, combined with a magnetic tip calibration procedure and Wiener deconvolution in Fourier domain. We discuss components and propagation of uncertainties in the tip calibration procedure and in the stray field calculation. An evaluation procedure is proposed and the measurement uncertainty of the stray field for a test sample SmCo5 is evaluated.
