A Wireless-Web-Framework for Real-Time Optimal Power Flow in Sustainable Power Supply Systems

To reliably and optimally operate sustainable power supply systems (SPSSs) including renewable energies, realtime measurement and optimal computation are required to compensate varying demand and renewable penetration. In this paper, we develop and implement a wireless-web-framework (WWF) for industrial real-time optimal power flow (RT-OPF) applications in SPSSs. Our basic idea is to measure the weather-dependent variables, e.g., wind speeds, and send them through a wireless system to a web-based system to acquire the current values of generated renewable powers. The objective of the RT-OPF is to maximize the injected active power from renewable generators, e.g., wind turbines (WTs), and meanwhile minimize the network active power losses. This is achieved by applying optimal active-reactive power dispatch and control strategies to the WTs in real-time. The established WWF is tested on a 4-bus testbed and 41-bus real SPSS and its effectiveness is illustrated.
