Dynamic Economic Dispatch for a Wind and Run-of-the-River Hydropower Integrated System: An IWO Implementation

In this paper, invasive weed optimization algorithm is employed to solve economic dispatch problem for a wind and run-of-the-river hydropower integrated system with varying load. The proposed solution provides next day operating costs at hourly intervals. This is achieved by utilizing SVR methodology to precisely predict wind power, run-of-the-river hydroelectricity and the load demand. Moreover, prohibited operating zones and generators ramp rate limits are considered in network modeling so that a practical system operation cost is obtained. The effectiveness of the provided solution is verified by applying it to an IEEE test system including six thermal units which is modernized by integrating wind power and run-of-the-river hydroelectricity. The efficiency of this approach is affirmed by comparing obtained results to those from particle swarm optimization and Firefly algorithm. It is revealed that invasive weed optimization technique outperforms both of these optimization methods.
