Real Time Heat Exchanger Control Using Predictive Functional Control

Stable and controlled temperature is a very important parameter for most of the chemical process. The temperature of a chemical processes can be controlled using a heat exchanger. Most commonly used heat exchanger used in industries is shell and tube heat exchanger. In this paper, we present a model for shell and tube heat exchanger using Predictive Functional Control (PFC). The approximation of the heat exchanger model is obtained through a discrete time system, where the discrete time system has specific sampling time. The entire system includes the measurement noise and input noise. The proposed PFC model controls the temperature of shell and tube heat exchanger using one degree of freedom control. The proposed model is subjected to various test conditions. Various parameters like dead time, constraints on input and output have been optimized. The performance of the proposed model is validated quantitatively as well as graphically to show its efficacy.
