Novel methods for Implementation of Efficient Median Filter

In this paper, we propose two new methodologies to implement the median filter based on threshold decomposition and stacking properties. In the first method, we obtain binary median filter output using a closed form polynomial expression from the binary signal/image. In the second method, we derive a positive boolean expression to obtain the binary median value. We compare time complexities of the proposed methods with existing method. Two proposed methods take less time to compute the median filter response compared to sorting based median filter. Using these two methods to obtain binary median value, we provide an efficient VLSI implementation.
