Abstract:

We are entering into a new era of computer technology that many people are calling the internet of things (IoT). This is likely to revolutionize the way we live. IoT is emerging as the wave in the development of the internet. Internet has taken a giant leap forward from 'Internet of communication' to 'Internet of Things', making it possible to connect objects and transfer data with or without human intervention. This system is a step towards a smart library. This paper discusses about user friendly facilitator for patrons. IoT has the potential to deliver solution that improves service efficiency and security of the academic library. This paper particularly deals with the application of Internet of Things (IoT) in academic libraries in Indian context. The paper starts with an introduction to IoT and elaborates the areas in which IoT can be applicable in academic libraries and the challenges in the implementation of IoT in academic libraries.
