Openness in Higher Education through Open and Distance Learning Environment

The Education 2030 Framework for Action concentrates its focus on qualitative, equitable and inclusive education which is an extended action of “Education for All” within 2015 initiative taken by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation). But in parity of increasing number of learner's worldwide, conventional educational system and its access is inadequate to reach the educational goal 2030 for sustainable development. Therefore, the demand of time is to promote educational system with all possibilities of open innovation. Ease of availability of Software and Hardware and advent of technology makes educational system feasible to conduct higher education in a wider context in online mode to achieve cost-effectiveness. Massive Open Online Course(MOOC) is one such endeavor in open innovation to widen the scopes of learner centric Educational system in order to facilitate innovative, interactive and collaborative learning environment where learner's set their own objectives rather than being restricted by institutions. This paper deals with the Open and Distance Learning environment taking Netaji Subhas Open University as a case study.
