Design and Evaluation of Charge Pump

For hand held and portable applications an efficient and integrated DC-DC convertor are required. A charge pump is best suited for this purpose. A charge pump is a DC-DC convertor that makes use of capacitor as charge storage element, along with it, it uses switching circuit in order to switch between different charge storage elements so as to increase output voltage more than input voltage. These circuits (which switches capacitors) are also called Charge Transfer Switch (CTS) in this paper different method for making charge pump have been discussed and a newer type of charge pump circuit is proposed which shows more voltage gain and requires a single clock. But proposed charge pump uses more number of MOSFETs that too can be fabricated on a single chip. Comparison of voltage gains and number of components required is done. Design and analysis has been done in cadence virtuoso using 180 nm.
