Conceptualising Entreprenurial Ecosystems: Definition, Configurations and Health

This paper conceptualises entrepreneurial ecosystems (EE) by addressing their definition, configurations and health. We define EE dynamically and highlight the interactions between value creation and location. We explore patterns of EE by two dimensions: driving forces varying by locations and value creation types. We also propose three dimensions that characterise EE health: basic functions, resilience and adaptation. Our theorizing contributes to entrepreneurship literatures by linking how entrepreneurs access resources to EE, and business ecosystem literatures by connecting location with value creation.
