Near-Field Aspects of Antiviral Action of Complex Nanoparticles on Adenovirus

The idea of mainly near-field action of `pure' nanoparticles on viruses of different kinds is used for description of antiviral activity of complex nanoparticles on adenovirus. Two different kinds of Au nanoparticles - simple and covered with SiO
₂
shell - were synthesized and used as antiviral agents against adenoviruses. It was shown that both types of nanoparticles demonstrate antiviral effect and virucidal action. The nonmonotonic dependence of the antiviral effect on nanoparticles concentration was observed and explained. The antiviral action of complex nanoparticles against adenovirus is important because of low toxicity of the gold nanoparticles covered with SiO
₂
shell.
