Elaboration of Structured LiMn2O4 for Rechargeable Batteries from Hydrometallurgical Liquid Effluent Rich in Manganese

This study deal with recovery and valorization of manganese from liquid waste- water resulting from hydrometallurgical process of cobalt. Indeed, nanocrystalline LiMn204 was synthesized from waste-effluent for its utility as the positive electrode of a lithium-ion battery. X-Ray Diffraction characterization demonstrated that pure phase LiMn
₂
O
₄
with an average crystallite size of 34 nm was prepared via a process involving several steps of purification, precipitation and heat treatment. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical tests were carried out. The results show that LiMn
₂
O
₄
have good structural properties, discharge capacity, cycle stability and rate performance. LiMn
₂
O
₄
sample delivers initial discharge capacity of 120 mAh/g and retains 115 mAh/g at C/1 and C/10 rate.
