Advanced Backstepping Control of a Wind Energy Conversion System Using a Doubly-Fed Induction Generator

The aim of this paper is to propose a novel robust control algorithm for a Doubly-fed Induction Generator integrated into a wind energy conversion system (WECS). The proposed method combines the field oriented control scheme and backstepping control applied in one hand to the rotor side converter (RSC) to regulate the stator active and reactive power, and in other hand, to the grid side converters (GSC) in order to maintain the DC-bus voltage at stable value and to ensure a unitary power factor between the GSC and the grid. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink Software have shown satisfying performances, in terms of dynamic performance, disturbance rejection, and robustness against parametric variations.
