Synthesis of Cu(InxGa1-x)Se2 Nanoparticles for Photovoltaic Applications

Copper indium gallium diselenide Cu(In
_x
Gal_
_x
)Se2 where x=0.4; (CIGS) nanoparticles have been synthesized using a wet chemical hydrothermal method. This method is based on a non-vacuum thermal process without any additional selenization process. Introducing different metal sources in an autoclave with ethylenediamine as solvent, CIGS nanoparticles were obtained at different temperatures range 190-230°C. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed the formation of a tetragonal Cu(Inx,Gal_x)Se2 chalcopyrite structure. The morphology and crystal size of the prepared nanoparticles were determined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDS) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM).
