Prof. Kamal Al-Haddad received the Innovation Award from the Ecole de Technologie Supérieure of Montreal, Canada, for his invention (with coinventors Youssef Ounejjar and Luc-Andre Gregoire) “Multilevel Electric Power Converter,” U.S. Patent, US9,331,599 B2 (Figure 1). A technology transfer agreement was signed on 10 May with Ossiaco, Inc. The invention was licensed to industry for commercialization. The new patent introduced a five-level Packed U Cell converter (PUC5).
