Algorithm for Determining Road Boundaries in the Radar System of an Unmanned Car

The report analyzes the possibility of using the automotive radar system (ARS) of prevention collisions to realize interactive or unmanned control of vehicle traffic in conditions of limited or no optical visibility. Since this control is based on the evaluation of the coordinates of the vehicle’s location on the road, the principle of constructing an algorithm for determining the boundaries of the carriageway with the help of ARS is considered. The method of constructing this algorithm is based on the results of a statistical analysis of the characteristics of radar signals reflected from the road surface and its roadsides in the ARS. The results of applying this algorithm to the processing of radar images (RI) of the road situation are presented, which are obtained as a result of full-scale testing of the experimental sample of ARS.
