Requirements Engineering for Adaptive and Self‐Adaptive Systems

Requirements engineering for adaptive and self‐adaptive systems targets requirements related to system adaptation when a system needs to cope with changes to ensure realization of its objectives. This entry outlines an approach to adaptation‐related requirements called autonomy requirements engineering (
ARE
). The approach converts adaptation issues into autonomy requirements targeting the realization of special features requiring limited or no human control. Therefore, by using ARE, software engineers can determine what autonomic features to develop as well as what artifacts that requirements engineering process might generate.
