Implementation of IoT: Smart Maintenance for Distribution Transformer using MQTT

Incessant distribution of power is the main impediment to modern power system era. To overcome such hurdle the necessity of distribution transformer maintenance is irrefutable. However, these maintenance works are done in the most primitive way, on field measurements by operators. This paper presents the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) based real-time monitoring and maintenance of distribution transformers, which effectively remits the labor-intensive maintenance for the massive number of geographically dispersed transformers. Proposed system offers an efficient way to monitor various critical parameters such as load current, temperature, oil level and methods to act accordingly in abnormal conditions. This embedded IoT based smart maintenance system's production and running cost is also economical compared to the GSM-based monitoring system which offers periodical monitoring and no means of control.
